Meagan’s Guide to Getting out of a Funk… and Getting Funky Fresh

I’ve been told that it‘s hard to tell when I‘m upset unless you really know me. Even when I’m really upset the process usually goes something like have a quick cry then build a bridge and get over it. I recently cried while I was getting my eyebrows done because I just realized the magnitude of the bug infestation in my apartment. Straw that broke the camel's back for how the stress of my week had been building.… embarrassing but love to pieces the woman who waxes my eyebrows. It’s like a loving little therapy session every time. Anywho.. back to the topic of funk.
It can be hard to pull yourself out of it when you're just feeling bummed, worn out, and unmotivated so I recommend a list to look back at from time to time. This list should highlight all the things that bring you joy. It can include anything such as your favorite snack, hobbies, a workout, etc. It’s a lot easier to come up with your list when you’re feeling good so it does require a little bit of thought. There's a little list I've been keeping in my journal app that I look back at.
Now, here's how I break down that list into a couple questions.
Are you having excess anxious energy? If you can, get outside. Weather permitting a good run or a walk by the ocean gives me great vibes. Icing on the cake, I'll listen to a podcast too while I’m at it.

Mental stress? Meditate. I've been using the Headspace app for a bit over a year now and I'm HOOKED. It was a hard habit to build in the beginning but it's gotten easier. The app also has stories to help you fall asleep. There's an amazing Sleepcast called Rainday Antiques where a British man tells you a story about an antique shop while gentle rain falls. I’m a sucker for a good rainstorm. Man I feel relaxed just thinking about it.
Hungry or thirsty? Getting some sushi, a big salad from Sweetgreen, a late, or an iced green tea tends to be my go-to. Girl math told you that green tea from Starbucks was free anyways because you used a preloaded card...

Having some tension or stress pain? A massage and a lot of water can be super helpful. Or zen out in a yoga class.
Need to immediately head to work? Wash your face or shower and put on your best fit. I tend to add a little makeup. It got to the point in college where friends would ask me if I was ok whenever I wore red lipstick because that used to mean I was trying to pull myself together (flashback to 2017 below). I do miss that lipstick collection but alas it is very dried up. I got out of the habit of it during covid and am trying to get it back.

I know for sure money can be a consideration so just pick whatever is in your budget and do what’s best for you. So go out there and write your list. I’m rooting for you. And remember you’re doing great sweetie :).
